The Artwork of Harry Hansen & Dee Hansen

DEE HANSEN

A native of Chicago, has always been drawing. Majoring in art at the University of Illinois, her favorite classes were figure drawing and painting. In 1965 Dee married fellow painter, Harry Hansen, and started a family. They moved their family to South Carolina in 1970 when Harry was offered a teaching position at the University of South Carolina. Dee finished her BA degree in painting at the University of South Carolina in 1978. Dee has taken many classes over the years: art education, ceramics, painting, figure drawing, art history, printmaking, anthropology, and map making.  Dee has had numerous jobs in the art field, including teaching in the middle school gifted and talented program, graphics and drafting in both Geology and Medical Illustration departments at USC. Her work is eclectic, sometimes taking a whimsical turn, as her muse dictates. She paints in watercolor and acrylic, creating colorful paintings of people, landscapes, and creatures of her imagination – mermaids, fish, and lizards. Dee has received numerous awards for her paintings, and has exhibited throughout the region.
